Tim Culling-Goodbye Western Sun.

It's hard to pigeonhole singer-songwriter Tim Culling's sound without resorting to generic categories like "adult alternative pop/rock" as he offers up a little bit of pop, a little bit of rock, a little bit of soul and a little bit of alt-country in his sound. It all adds up to a winning mixture on this 7-track EP, led by the outstanding title track, which has an insistent piano hook that will bury itself in your subconscious, "So With That Aside", its bookend, is another brilliant number with an upbeat melody, and in between the Wilco-esque "This Much I Can See" and the bluesy "I Got a Friend" are the highlights. Possibly 2011's top EP to date.

REVIEW  FOR GOODBYE WESTERN SUN
CULTURE BOMB.NET
by Vernon Tart

Goodbye Western Sun captures influences that remind me of Randy Newman, with a bit of off beat pop; a modern day Beach Boys without the incredible harmonies yet with a nod towards The Kinks in their heyday. You hear so little piano music these days with such a classic feel that brings out such warm feelings for old songs.

A quieter alternative choice in music that is well written and conceived, like a love letter from an old lost friend. Lost in the quiet, ghost of the past in the rich fabric of your memory, Tim Culling calls forth the ghost and delivers a warm and memorable feeling in the melodies he writes. Barcelona Streets, with its classic feel could be a Bob Seger song with a bit more rasp in the vocals but it holds strong to the tradition of rock and roll and gets the mind wavering into a new artist Culling is able to deliver the feeling of pleasure to these ears that makes music worth listening to.

So if you lay awake at night and wonder why no one makes music like they use to, listen to Tim Culling, that really takes the listener to where he is.

Review for GoodBye Western Sun

By Max Humphries,

"Culling's love of pop and the mechanics of making pop albums is clear almost immediately. The musicianship is spellbinding and the song writing top rate. It's basically a quiet work, with well-executed, yet very subdued playing. The arrangements are intelligent, and no song is made up simply of one influence, and influence never goes ahead of pure songwriting genius. Sounding relaxed and confident, and balancing the best of his pop sensibilities, it is a record brimming with possibilities for the future." - Max Humphries GREAT!!!
